The Kintsugi Project will be published in full as a book by December, 2018! Please follow this link to our Kickstarter Campaign to pledge! Every dollar will help to bring this book to fruition. Much gratitude to you!
The art of kintsugi, or “golden joinery”, was born hundreds of years ago in Japan. Instead of tossing broken pieces of art or pottery in the trash, craftsmen would restore a broken piece with a lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object rather than something to disguise. It focusses not on replacement, but of awe, reverence, and restoration.
Fifty-five subjects. Fifty-five deeply emotive stories. Hundreds of incredibly raw and real photographs to accompany each story. This year long project has been an incredible journey – please find each installation in the links below.
Together, we have celebrated the human body, the joy of self-love, and the primal spirit of survival. These humans are absolute and exquisite and whole and incredible. Each subject has brought such raw honesty and authenticity to our sessions, and I am so incredibly grateful for each one of them. Each story. Each connection. They are living, breathing, screaming proof of resilience, power, strength, grace, joy, and love. I have a grateful heart. Thank you to each subject that has shared that safe space with me.
What’s next? A book! 🙂
I hope to create a beautiful book with each subject and their stories featured. I’ve decided to self-publish with a well-respected printer, but I need to raise the funds first! Hopefully, if enough funds are raised, I can begin the work of assembling this beautiful book that will feature each one of these amazing humans. I hope to have the book ready for shipping by the beginning of December, just in time for the holidays. Please enter your email below for notifcation when the Kickstarter is launched in March of 2018! Thank you so much for your support. XO
